Recap: Signing at Indigo with Pierce Brown

Originally, I planned on attending Bakka Phonenix’s signing since I knew there was going to be less people, but I change my mind last minute and went to the Indigo signing instead. Big mistake. The Bakka signing had only nine people and it was more a meet and greet and way more intimate.

As soon as I arrived at Indigo Bay and Bloor, I went downstairs when I saw the chairs being set up. I kind of loitered around the area having no idea there was a line until some Indigo employee mentioned it. There were already three aisles full of people and I was in the last one. I was running a bit late because I didn’t switch over to the other train (LOL). Got there around 5:30pm since the signing was at 7pm.

My friend Melissa was already in line and she went over to me because clearly I can’t butt in. We chatted for about an hour until around 6:30pm they started to bring people over to the stage where the chairs were. There were a lot of people..I’m guessing around 200 people came!

I was so glad I managed to get a chair since I was in group three and by the end of the night I believe there were eight groups! When Indigo hosts events like these, they check your receipts, give you post-its with your name and then will give you a number so when they call that group up, it’s their turn to get their books signed. Then Indigo started giving away $5 gift cards for answering trivia. Funnily I guessed one in my head and then got it right hah

My view from the audience

Pierce and Sam Maggs finally came out around 7:10pm and the audience cheered. He was all smiles as he took his spot. It was all sorts of awesome finally getting to see him when just three years ago, we were chatting on Twitter and got invited to his webcam chat (he had around 500 followers and now he has 12.8k followers!). Sam Maggs asked him a couple of questions and he answered promptly and in detail. Then the audience asked some questions for the next half hour. All in all, he was truly inspiring throwing in writing advice such as doing one thing at a time so it won’t seem as daunting, outlining a character’s entire story arc on one post-it note, and even praised his love of J.K. Rowling’s genius patterns for plot points. He was charming and witty and his eyes really are piercing blue.. (See what I did there? womp womp womp LOL)

Then it was time to get books signed! Honestly, I never know what to say when I meet authors, I get all tongue tied and nervous, but I managed to say something at least. Pierce said I looked familiar and I told him I was a blogger..He recognized my Twitter name and probably from the excessive tweets I mentioned him when Red Rising was about to come out. He gave me a firm handshake and I asked him how he liked Canada. Pierce seemed rather quiet and shy when I was talking to him awww.. He said everyone is really polite and always holding out doors for him. Then he quickly signed my books, we took a quick photo together, and then said, “Bye Book Nerd Canada!” with a wave *waves*

After I got off the step-up platform, I was stopped my Maria @bigcitybookworm from Twitter. We started talking quickly and she also introduced me to @LeandraRant! We chatted a bit about Morning Star saying how crazy it was and how our hearts were broken.

I was also talked and mingled with Patty @ Bookish Wander Love, Shelly @ Read.Sleep.Repeat, Joey @ Another After Thought, Jesse @ Books at Dawn, Amanda @ Brains, Books, and Brawn and her boyfriend. This is why I immediately jump at the chance to go to author signings because every time you go to one, bloggers are there and it’s this huge reunion party 😀

What a wonderful event, and congrats gain to Pierce for making it #1 on the New York Times Best-selling list! Seeing him grow in popularity has been super fun to watch 😀

Thank you to Penguin RandomHouse Canada and Indigo for the event!
